Terms of Use
Last updated Sep 6, 2026
It is free, run by one person, and the weight split is arithmetic rather than advice. What you carry is your call.
What this is
Campfire is a free tool for planning hiking trips — a shared roster, gear list, food plan, and weight split. It is offered as it stands, with no company behind it. Using it means these terms apply to you.
Your account
One account, yours, with an email you can receive at, and you must be at least 16. Keep the password to yourself: anyone holding it can read and change every trip you are on. There is no reset-by-email yet, so a forgotten password means writing to support.
What you write stays yours
Trip names, gear lists, travel notes — yours. Campfire stores them and shows them to the people on your trip so the app can work, and nothing else: not published, not used to train anything, not sold. Put in only what you have the right to put in.
A trip is a shared space
Anyone holding a trip’s invite code can join it and see everything in it. That code is the only lock on the door. An owner can rotate it and remove people who should not be there.
The weight split is arithmetic, not advice
Campfire divides one number by another. It does not know your back, your knees, the weather, the route, or what happens if the person carrying the stove turns around at the pass. What you carry is your decision, and so are the food plan, the checklist, and who sleeps in which tent. Check every figure against your own judgement before you leave. The mountains hurt people who plan badly and people who plan well — nothing here is a safety margin.
Fair use
Do not deliberately break the app, go looking for trips you were not invited to, upload anything unlawful, or hammer the API. An account doing any of that can be suspended — with notice where practical, without it where the abuse is doing damage.
No promises about uptime
It can be slow, it can be down, features can change, and the whole thing can stop. Keep anything you would hate to lose somewhere other than Campfire.
Liability
Campfire is provided as is, with no warranty, and to the fullest extent the law allows no liability is accepted for anything lost or gone wrong on a trip planned with it, your data included. Three things are always carved out: harm caused deliberately or through gross negligence, death or injury caused by fault, and any consumer right your own country’s law will not let a contract take away.
Ending it
Delete your account whenever you like; the privacy policy says what happens to your data. From this side, access can be withdrawn for the abuse above, or if the service shuts down.
Changes to these terms
These terms can change. A change to what you may do or what you are owed is announced in the app before it takes effect. Carrying on using Campfire is how you accept it.
Law and contact
Governed by the law of Ukraine. If you are a consumer elsewhere, that choice does not remove protections your own country’s law will not let a contract override.
